Call with Dr. Doreen

December 2007
I was recently on a trip to India and I had the opportunity to meet somebody who knew somebody who holds the title of psychic healer.
Once this healer hears about your symptoms, which can be relayed by email or telephone or in person, he determines what psychic trauma and/or karmic debt is causing your disease. Remember this is India.
Once the diagnosis is made a series of oils are treated with herbs and prayed over thousands of times.
The oil is then applied to by patient for however long the healer has deemed it necessary to cure the condition. Six months or however long later, voila, the patient is cured.
I am always looking for what's new, or in this case old. Something alternative, cutting edge, non-toxic and yet extremely affective.
This sounded good to me in theory, but there was one big, glaring hiccough.
It works on the same dreaded medical model as our western medicine. The Doctor, in whatever form, gives the patient a pronouncement by which he/she is doomed unless the trusted cure is taken.
There are many things that I can do for my patients, as a Doctor. I consider myself a healer, and as such, a teacher of right thinking as a way to regain and maintain optimum health.
Then why not simply give the patient one's medical opinion, no matter what form it takes, alleviate immedicate pain and suffering, by whatever means the healer has at her/ his disposal, then go about teaching the patient how to pray over their own oils.
This is to say, impower the seeker.
In my 25 years of experience as a healer, I can say with reasonable certainty, that the habits, thought patterns and sometimes less than optimal protoplasm that sets us up for illness are not always easily corrected.
But I do believe that we all have the ability, if not the desire to rise to the occasion of participating in our own healing.
Take medication if we have to, change our lifestyles if we have to, pray if we have to.
But all the while, ideally, working with a healer who understands that our minds and our bodies are made to heal themselves.
Help is usually a good thing. I would never want to do my own taxes or drill my own teeth.
But even after a radical surgical procedure, the body is counted on to knit itself back together and progress toward wellness. Something it does a whole lot better with peace of mind.
